ULTRAFILTRATION TECHNOLOGY
The separation of oil and other contaminants from wastewater
is difficult. L&T Technologies has been working with
customers, vibratory finishers, machine shops, and heavy
metal generators to name a few, in solving this problem for
years. The answer is Cross Flow Ultrafiltration with a 1” hollow
fiber, wide channel membrane. This provides many benefits
over other types of separation, and evaporation processes.
Ultrafiltration (UF) is a continuous, industrial-scale
process for separating high molecular weight, colloidal
or suspended solids from fluid streams. The key to the
process is a thin, polymeric, semi-permeable membrane.
Feed solution is pumped at low pressures and high flow
rates across the surface of the membrane. Solutes whose
sizes are greater than the pore size (0.1-micron) of the
membrane and all suspended solids are retained and concentrated.
Water, salts, and small molecular weight constituents pass
through, or permeate, the membrane. Thus, the pore structure
of the membrane acts as a molecular filter that does not
become plugged because the retained components of the feed
are rejected at the surface and do not penetrate the membrane.
Ultrafiltration membranes are used to concentrate and recycle
solutions from a number of processes. The membranes will
separate the process fluid into two streams, a concentrate
and a permeate (filtrate) stream. One and/or the other stream
may be of value and may be suitable for further treatment
once the components have been processed through the ultrafilter
system.
ULTRAFILTRATION BENEFITS
Water recycle yields zero discharge capabilities.
Minimal operation and labor costs.
High concentration minimizes disposal costs.
Low initial set up costs.
Minimal pretreatment chemicals needed.
APPLICATIONS FOR ULTRAFILTRATION
Acrylic latex manufactures

Parts cleaner effluent wash water.
Vibratory wastewater finishers.
Heavy metal waste streams.
Uniform, laundry wash water.
L&T Technologies offers standard Ultrafiltration units.
We also custom design a system based on your company’s
needs. L&T has a full staff of technical personnel with
many years of experience with this type of treatment. All
unit prices include one of our field technicians on site
for start-up to train your company’s personnel. L&T
has a full pilot lab on site to test your wastewater for
the proper type of treatment.
